6am – Matt and Leslie ushered in the Morning Show with news of rats living, nesting and mating in the city’s MetroCard machines. Leslie informed us that thousands are without power from this weekend’s storms, ARod is fine after being hit by a fastball, a leaked military report revealed Pakistan’s support of the Taliban, and BP chief Tony Hayward is stepping down.
7am – Matt’s iPod spun out “Mr. Brownstone” by Guns N’ Roses this hour after one of our listeners won tickets to MGMT at Radio City Music Hall on August 18th. Dee Snyder was on promoting his new show, “Growing Up Twisted.”
8am – Another winner of MGMT tickets spun Matt’s iPod with REM’s “What’s the Frequency Kenneth?” In music news, Leslie and Matt told us about a new Bush album due out later this year, a Kings of Leon concert that was cut short because of excessive pigeon poop, the Rolling Stones’ announcement of their final tour, and singer Mick Jagger’s 67th birthday today. Today’s Cover Me featured the Mighty Mighty Bosstones covering the Clash’s “Rudy Can’t Fail.” Billy Corgan will be in the RXP studio tomorrow.
9am – Matt told us about RXP’s upcoming Gorillaz show at Madison Square Garden on October 8th. The Gorillaz will be playing with two members of the Clash.
