Paper Rock Steady With The Hold Steady

The WRXP Anniversary show rocked Union Square last night. The evening started out with a pre-show bash at Side Bar – just across the street from the Filmore. The joint was jumpin’ as RXP staff and listeners wet their whistles with half priced drinks and $3 dollar beers. David Greek could be seen tossing back a few by the bar while the RXP street crew was in the back with a few promotional give-a-ways. One of our biggest fans, Mike the token booth clerk made the trip all the way from his station in Coney Island to show his support. Listening to the radio is a big part of his life there in the token booth and he’s been an avid listener since day one. Thanks Mike for showing us some love.

With a bevy of local bands to perform, the evening’s festivities got under way just after 8. Paul Calvalconte opened the show, comparing 101.9’s rebirth as WRXP to that of Irving Plaza becoming the Filmore & as Black Gold went on stage, Rich Russo and Phillips could be seen rocking out in the crowd along with the fans.

Steve Craig came out on stage to introduce the Rosewood Thieves and newest member of the WRXP family Nik Carter, just off his first shift on the pm drive. And last but certainly not least Matt Pinfield and Leslie Fram came out to introduce The Hold Steady and to give away a guitar autographed by the band. Congrats to winner Tamar Rosenberg of Manhattan, who coincidently just picked up the guitar again after a brief hiatus. Craig Finn and the crew tore the house down, starting off with Stay Positive and ending with Finn changing into a New York Rangers Jersey to finish out the show. Thanks to all who came out and especially Metro PCS for making it all possible.
