I was born and raised in the surf-punk cultural mecca of Huntington Beach. Having grown up listening to The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Creedence and The Stones, I wasn’t quite prepared for the life-changing event that happened on my birthday, August 11, 1976.

A friend of mine snuck me in to see The Ramones for their first ever west coast show at the Roxy in LA. I never really knew what rock & roll was until that night. I quickly traded my surfboard for a drum kit. I spent a lot of time in the garage and taught myself every beat. Punk became huge in my neighborhood, and I started collecting albums from bands like The Sex Pistols, The Damned, Tuff Darts, The Jam, Dead Boys and Talking Heads. One of our favorite hangouts was The Casbah studios in Orange County, watching bands and listening to demos. That’s where I met a guy named Mike Ness. He loved the fact that I collected records from unknown bands like The Germs, The Dickies, The Runaways and X. Mike introduced me to a guy who worked at KEZY Radio right down the street from Disneyland. He asked if I would want to help put together a weekly punk rock radio show. How the hell could I say no! I even got to be the deejay! The show lasted 3 weeks. Management just wasn’t ready for this stuff yet. Mike Ness went on to form Social Distortion, and I ended up hanging around radio stations ever since.

Slowly working my way east, I’ve introduced music in LA, Fresno, Salt Lake City, Atlanta and finally, New York City! Hometown of the band that started it all for me.

On a personal note…
I'm into urban spelunking
I’m a licensed pilot, a certified musicologist, connoisseur of fine rum and a horrible drummer.

David Byrne in a tutu!
Posted 6/13/2009 2:59:00 PM

Last night at Bonnaroo... an amazing night! Tried to shuffle between Beasties and David Byrne on the 2 bigger stages... I finally made it through the sea of hippies and got a pretty cool vantage point for the Beasties and the first song I catch? "Egg Raid on Mojo"!  Their first freakin' song ever!  Body Movin, No Sleep till Brooklyn... and a few more... then we moved back to catch the last of David Byrne's set... so there he is bustin' out "Burnin' Down the house" in a tutu!  The entire stage presentation is insane!  After his encore (lots of kids showing amazing respect and chanting "da-VID... da-VID!") we caught the band Phoenix... this band from France had a VERY impressive live set... they will be huge! Close to 2am Brian and I grabbed a bottle of rum and crashed on a couple lawn chairs and watched Phish do AC/DC ...
